Well it has been a few months of planning regarding my entry into the Queensland AIPP State Epson Awards for 2016. Such as stressful time trying to work out which images should be entered into the various categories. Undertaking re edits of images from scratch until satisfied with the result. Test printing with the assistance of Andrew Merefield from Living Image Fine Art Printing at Stones Corner. Refining and then giving the go ahead to print and mat ready for delivery to the TAFE campus at Mt Gravatt where this years award judging was held on Saturday 29 April and Sunday 1 May.
I entered 3 categories - Commercial, Landscape and Illustrative.
In Commercial and Landscape I was well pleased with the awarded points and very pleased when judges recognised what I was trying to achieve by individually scoring my images as either Silver or Silver Distinction but when averaged out missing by 1 or 2 points in achieving that Silver. I also learnt a lot. I especially wanted to hear the discussion that I hoped would occur when the judges viewed my images. Feedback is such an important thing to have to assist you to learn and refine your craft.
Live streaming of the event assisted on Saturday as I could not be there at the campus for the judging. However a little disappointing when feeds broke causing me to miss the discussion and scoring of two images I had entered in the landscape category.
Sunday I headed over to the campus to watch live the Illustrative category judging. When my black and white image was judged by the panel of 5 photographers I was thrilled at the various interpretations of this conceptual image. An image created from an idea whilst visiting Melbourne in October last year. The panel awarding it a Silver.
The last image in the category was my ‘droplet’ image. Awarded a Silver with out any discussion occurring.
So I have posted this news on my website on the ‘latest news’ page with these two images.
Next is another stressful period for me as I to and fro as to what images I should enter into the National AIPP awards to be held in August this year in Melbourne.
I hope you enjoy viewing my images as much as I enjoyed creating them.
